In the Field: A Glimpse into the 2019 Global Studies Workshop
Conferences are ideal for colleagues to meet on common topics and share best practices. When that conference is held in a fun and learning environment, it can make for a magical combo. By all accounts, the 2019 Global Studies Workshop in Costa Rica was that and more. The program took place from June 28-July 2, 2019.
“Beyond incredible,” said Simon Ponce. “My goal was to meet, to learn, to share, and to have fun. All my goals were met.” Simon was one of a group of educators attending the program for the first time, along with a colleague from St. Paul’s School in Baltimore. The professional development program combined field learning with workshop topics. Along the way there were fun activities like whitewater rafting and a cooking class.
“It was an amazing trip,” recounted Lianne Petrocelli from Tabor Academy. “It was a great balance of learning, adventure and shared experiences. My only regret is not extending it.” The 5-day program was based in the San José and Sarapiquí regions, with a small group extension over the 4th of July to Arenal Volcano.
“I enjoyed the whole experience and appreciated the opportunities to collaborate with other educators,” added Debbie Fox from Chestnut Hill Academy. “I really enjoyed the Language Academy and Sarapiquí Learning Center visits where I was able to understand ways to really interact with the people of Costa Rica.”
In addition to the Global Studies Workshops for educators, Holbrook Travel regularly holds international programs for professionals. See the website for upcoming programs.
